VicNode reaches 1 petabyte of research data

This week VicNode passed the one petabyte (1 PB) mark for research data stored on our infrastructure. One petabyte is 1,000 terabytes (TB) or 1,000,000 gigabytes (GB). If we were storing this data as one MP3 file, it would take 2000 years to play from the start to the end.

VicNode is storing data across all the Fields of Research Divisions. The graph below shows how much data has been approved (in blue) and how much has been ingested (in green) for each Division. So far the Engineering, Biological Science, Chemical Science disciplines have ingested the most data, with a number of groups not far behind.

Ingest/Approved by FOR code

It’s great to all of the disciplines making data available through VicNode. Look through our Collection page to find datasets that will be useful to your research, or use the search function on our website. Each collection has a description and contact information that you can use to request access. Some of the collections even have links that will let you start using the data today.
