Pawsey Roadshow is going to Melbourne

On Monday 10 and Friday 14 October the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre will be in Melbourne helping researchers to take their projects to the next level, through the Pawsey Roadshow and an introductory training session.

The Pawsey Supercomputing Centre is a state-of-the-art high-performance computing facility representing Australia’s commitment to the solution of Big Science problems. The facility provides researchers across Australia with access to the most powerful public research computer in the Southern Hemisphere, and it is focused on providing integrated research solutions through world-class expertise and infrastructure in supercomputing, data, and visualisation.

The Roadshow is an event showcasing services and resources that Pawsey provides to researchers across Australia.

This free event will have staff from Pawsey representing the organisation and answering questions from researchers who would like to take advantage of HPC and related services.

If you are a researcher or student, who is interested in high-performance computing, or if you want to see if your work can be taken to the next level by using powerful computing resources, we welcome you to come along and meet with Pawsey users and staff.

The day will start with a presentation from staff followed by a clinic where potential users will be able to ask Pawsey experts how to gain access to supercomputing, data or visualisation systems and how they can benefit from the expertise of Pawsey staff in transitioning their research. This is also an opportunity for current users who need one-on-one advice from one of Pawsey’s experts to get help with code issues.

Additionally, an Introduction to Supercomputing training session will be held each afternoon. This course will instruct users on working with supercomputers. Topics include parallel computing concepts, queuing systems and batch scripts, running jobs, job accounting, tips, and etiquette.

Program:
9 am – 10 am    Presentation from Pawsey staff
10 am – 12 pm Clinics for researchers
1 pm – 4 pm     Introduction to Supercomputing training session. After completing the training session, the attendee will be able to:

  • Understand basic parallel computing concepts and workflows
  • Understand the high-level architecture of a supercomputer
