Since 2004, the Australian Government has invested over $2.5 billion to deliver world-class research infrastructure. The Government has committed an additional $300 million since June 2015 to fund the ongoing operations of the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS). The National collaborative research infrastructure strategy (NCRIS) delivers world class research facilities so that Australian researchers can solve complex problems both here in Australia and around the globe.
The Research Data Services (RDS) is supported through NCRIS 2013 and 2016 funding to improve research computing infrastructure by helping to build, implement and maintain tools, services and capabilities.
The RDS funding for 2016 will focus on transitioning domain specific data as a service projects into sustainable services at each of the RDS nodes and help consolidate them with other commonwealth funded e-infrastructure investments such as NeCTAR, ANDS, NCI.
There are 11 research community projects being supported by the RDS . VicNode is involved in the following 5:
- Culture and Community Research Data Services
- Image Publishing Data Services
- Life Sciences (Genomics) Research Data Services
- Medical and Health Sciences
- Omics Data Services
